Romans 14:1-23. Mike starts by looking at the difference between the Greek and Hebrew mind-sets, where the latter focuses on the vertical (God-to-man) relationship. Our relationship with Christ liberates us, but also brings an obligation to serve our Master. We are free to do many things, but we need to consider others. Our only standard of judging others should be God's Word and standard, not our own. Our lives need to be consistent, putting others' needs first.

Acts 7:59 – 8:13. Paul begins by looking at the martyrdom of Stephen and His revelation of and witness to Jesus Christ. Stephen is one of several Biblical characters who react with grace when under pressure, showing to those around the God whom they serve. Like that persecution which scattered the early Church, God allows things in our lives which 'shake the nest' in which we have become comfortable. God wants us to grow and live out our faith, to guide others to Him.

It is easy to hear God when we're in church, but our everyday lives are full of distractions. God wants our time and attention, but we need to tune out the background noise. Like Martha in the story, we need to find the balance between service and devotion. God is the 'I AM', the One who wants our attention now.

Mark 1:29-39. Mike begins his talk by talking about supply and demand. Time management is actually more about self management. We need to learn to stop for a while, clear the decks of rubbish and take a rest, so that we can again work well. The case study of Jesus Christ, from Mark's gospel account, shows us how He learnt to handle pressure and remain faithful. In between healing many and moving to His next assignment, Jesus spent time communing with His Father. We need to learn 'yes without reservation and no without guilt'.

Genesis 11:1-9. Jonathan starts by giving an historical background to Babel, or Babylon, as it was later known. Cultures across the world, including Mexican and Polynesian, tell of a similar story of a great tower and the following judgement. However, God's intervention in this plan may well have been to save us from ourselves, as He would prefer diversity in the world. This story can teach us many things, including the need to surrender our will to God. Jonathan finished by sharing a vision of us being like a Viking long-ship, rowing against the Babel flow. We need to row hard, but we also need to be ready to save those caught in that flow.

Ruth 1:1-7. Mike begins by looking at the storm of change and its effect on us. It may immobilise us or cause us to react (in anger). He then talks about the anchors of faith: that God is in control, that He is good and that nothing can happen to us that He has not permitted, even like the suffering which Job experienced. The case study of Elimelech and Naomi (in the book of Ruth) shows how we can move from God's provision to emptiness, but that God draws us back, declaring, “I love you deeply.”

1 Corinthians 1:18-31. John uses this passage to show that God's wisdom is not like the world's. God's choice of people would probably not be ours – e.g. Moses, David or the disciples. We might choose people because of their power or influence: but God chooses those who don't have the ability or power, so that He gets the glory. So when God calls us to do things for Him, we have to depend on Him for the power and ability, so that He has the glory when things are achieved.

John 3:16. Christians and churches often portray an image – through personal styles and attitudes or dodgy puns on notice-boards – which is likely to make the rest of the world cringe. However, that isn't the whole picture of Christianity. Many people haven't actually heard the story of Jesus or read the Bible, but have simply had a second-hand version of events. Dave uses this key verse from John's gospel account to show that God loves this world and did something amazing to give people a new chance at life – now and forever.

Luke 18:35-43. Using the story of Jesus' healing of the blind beggar, David poses the question, What do we want God to do for us through N' Fest? Back in the account of this healing, we see a crowd who wanted the blind man to be quiet, but a Saviour who knew what the beggar really needed. The beggar knew the power behind the “Son of David” and not only received his sight but followed Jesus and encouraged an attitude of praise. Psalm 18:1-19. In line with the N' Fest theme, Mike starts by talking about God's rescue mission: in the Old Testament, God had a plan, a place and a purpose for His people. In the New Testament church, God has given us the task of being a recovery force, where we are called to lead people towards Christ and even bless them in our daily lives. Ultimately, we are “trusting [God] to show up and show off in [people's] lives.”

John 21:20-25. Like the final word at the end of a sermon (as Mike does), Paul uses these verses from the end of John's gospel account to show how a good message is finished with a pithy and concise final word. This one concludes with a “triple A” rating: an Assessment of Jesus' life, an Admission of failure (Jesus doesn't fit into books very well) and an Acknowledgement of who Jesus is. There is really no final word after that – Jesus is the final Word!

Hebrews 6:10-20. Steve used the illustration of a ship's anchor to describe our hope in God, which is certain and immovable. He showed us three ways that we can make our hope sure: by imitating faithful people, by depending on God's faithful promises and by following where Jesus has gone before. Steve also shared some aspects and testimonies of his work on the docks.

Ephesians 1:1-8. Using the drama about families that preceded his talk, John showed us that family life does not always function properly. He also showed a clip from 'The Matrix' to demonstrate that many people are aware that life is not all it's supposed to be: that there is something missing. He then went on to use the passage from Ephesians to show that God has a plan for our lives – even before our birth – and that He has provided the way for us to function properly, as individuals and families.
